This prosthetic leg, modeled on a woman's prosthesis, is more than eight feet tall. It hangs in suspension, creating the effect of a disembodied limb kicking in slow motion. Leg amputation, often the result of a roadside bomb, is one of the defining injuries of the United States wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The upper margin of the leg is decorated with images of women's designer stiletto sandals, bringing to mind the juxtaposition of fashion and war imagery seen in Rosler's photomontages.
